 Senior Scientist

Engineer a new paradigm in food production

The Good Food Institute (GFI) is on the forefront of the movement to use food technology and markets to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger to antibiotic efficacy and the exploitation of billions of animals annually. GFI’s Senior Scientists’ in-depth research will expand the frontiers of plant-based and "clean" meat, milk, and egg technologies until they render factory farming obsolete.

How You Will Make a Difference

GFI’s Senior Scientists help create a healthy, humane, and sustainable food supply by catalyzing and accelerating R&D for more and better plant-based and clean meat, empowering the scientific community, and educating the public. . Working with key academic, nonprofit, and industry stakeholders, GFI’s Senior Scientists coordinate scientific research to ensure that plant-based and cultured technologies dominate the marketplace as quickly as possible by:

  • Leading and writing technical analyses of the plant-based and clean meat industries that culminate in white papers, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed articles.
  • Identifying the key areas requiring the most focused research, and finding researchers to perform that work.
  • Mobilizing funding by meeting with venture capitalists, foundations, universities, and others that are interested in putting capital into plant-based and clean meat technologies.
  • Building GFI’s capacity to serve as a knowledge hub for the industry and to guide public discourse around it.
  • Providing technical support, mentoring, and strategic advice to entrepreneurs, start-ups, venture capitalists, academic faculty, and students on topics such as product development, career changes, business design, and process expertise.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking smart, thoughtful, and creative self-starters who want to push back against climate change, transform industrial animal agriculture, and develop healthy and humane foods that are accessible to everyone.

Senior Scientists must have exceptional writing and public speaking skills, experience analyzing  scientific literature, a proven track record in communicating science to lay professionals, and enthusiasm for GFI’s mission. They will need sound judgment in decision making, including managing priorities and meeting competing deadlines. We are considering candidates with a master’s degree or higher (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant scientific field (e.g. food science, biology, chemistry, engineering). A background in food science or mechanical engineering is favored. Familiarity with or experience working with plant-based or clean meat/milk/egg companies is a strong plus.

Enjoy full medical coverage, optional dental and vision packages, a 401(k) retirement plan, working from home, flexible holiday and vacation plans, room for advancement, respectful managers, and supportive colleagues at The Good Food Institute!
