COVID-19 Statement from The Good Food Institute
On behalf of the entire GFI team, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe. As the novel coronavirus has wrought havoc around the world, these past few months have seen more upheaval than many of us could have imagined. The alternative protein community spans continents, cultures, and sectors, but a shockwave like this reminds us just how intimately connected everyone really is.
As the entire world braces for even more devastating impacts from COVID-19, images of empty grocery store shelves have laid bare the reality that—when modern society comes to a screeching halt—food remains essential. Even amidst the throes of the current crisis, there is no question that a largescale shift to alternative proteins will be central to mitigating the risk of future pandemics.
GFI is honored to work alongside so many incredible partners who remain committed to these systemic challenges and solutions and we are deeply grateful to our donors who continue to support this crucial mission. We recognize that many organizations in the alternative protein sector are struggling with disruptions in the market, and individuals everywhere are wrestling with uncertainty about the future.
We are here to support this community.
The world is changing. Fast. Whether we act or not, we will experience unprecedented transformation in the coming months and years. And just as we are connected through the hardship of this pandemic, we are connected in the response. The novel coronavirus offers a striking demonstration of how every person’s actions ripple across the community, local and global.
Through all of our actions, we can work to ensure that—both now as we strive to lessen the impact of the coronavirus and in the long run—the world changes for the better.
